Mazha Thorum Munpe (transl. Before the Rain Stops) is an Indian Malayalam-language television soap opera.[2] The series is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel of the same name by Joycee, who also serves as the show's scriptwriter.[3][4] It stars Nikitha Rajesh, Vaishnavi Saikumar, Kishore Peethambaran, and Rahul Suresh in the lead roles, and features an ensemble cast.[5][6] The series premiered on Asianet on 7 July 2025.[7]
The story revolves around three orphans in Snehaniketam orphanage headed by Brijithamma: Aleena, Revathykutty and Chinnukutty. Upon discovering she is terminally ill, Brijithamma decides to secure the futures of her wards. Chinnukutty is moved to another orphanage, while Revathykutty is taken in as a domestic help by a couple, Mamachan and Graceamma. Brijithamma travels to Pala to visit Kunjiramamenon, Aleena's maternal grandfather, seeking a home for the girl. Burdened by past guilt, Kunjiramamenon travels to Kazhakoottam with his grandson, Manushankar. He instructs Manu to bring Aleena to their ancestral home under the guise of being a caretaker for his bedridden wife, Saudamini. Before her death, Brijithamma reveals to Aleena that Vyjayanthi, Kunjiramamenon's daughter, is Aleena's biological mother.
Following Kunjiramamenon's death due to old age, Manu fulfills his grandfather's last wish by bringing Aleena to their home, accompanied by Balachandran, Vyjayanthi's husband. Aleena's arrival is met with immediate hostility from Vyjayanthi, who views the presence of a young, beautiful housemaid as a threat to her domestic peace. Her ego and a series of misunderstandings harden her dislike for Aleena. Meanwhile, Manu develop romantic feelings for Aleena. Parallelly, Revathykutty's life takes a turn as Mamachan and Graceamma eventually accept her as their foster daughter. Revathykutty discovers the couple's late son, Jomon, had a child with his ex-fiancée, Sherin, though their search for the child stalls due to Sherin's mental instability and her family's hostility.
Aleena’s half-brothers, Rohit and Harishankar, attempt to assault her. During the ensuing turmoil, Balachandran accidentally overhears a phone conversation between Aleena and Revathykutty, leading him to doubt Aleena's origins. He secretly records her calls and is devastated to learn the truth about her parentage. He confirms the truth with Vyjayanthi's elder brother, Colonel Gangadhara Menon, who reveals that Aleena was born from Vyjayanthi's past relationship with his colleague, Stanley Joseph in Agra. Shaken by the discovery and Vyjayanthi's past deception, Balachandran suffers a cardiac arrest. Following a period of reflection during his recovery period, Balachandran accepts Aleena as his daughter while distancing himself from Vyjayanthi. The bond between Balachandran and Aleena is misinterpreted by the rest of the family as an illicit affair. To protect Vyjayanthi's reputation while keeping Aleena in the house, Balachandran falsely claims Aleena is his own illegitimate child from a relationship prior to his marriage. An enraged Vyjayanthi leaves the house and meets with a severe road accident. Seeking vengeance for their sister's perceived dishonor, Vyjayanthi's brothers, Shivashankaran and Rajeevan, kidnap Aleena. Colonel Gangadharan is forced to intervene and reveal that Aleena is actually their biological niece and Vyjayanthi's daughter.[8]
Revathykutty continues her search for Jomon's missing child, realizing that Sherin did indeed give birth, though the child's current whereabouts remain a mystery. Harishankar devises a plan to assault his girlfriend Saranya with Rohit and two others. Rohit panics and withdraws at the last moment, taking no part in the physical act; however, all four are arrested for their involvement. Drawing on her history of supporting outcasts at the orphanage, Aleena becomes Saranya's primary source of strength, helping her overcome her trauma and rebuild her life. While Rohit is eventually granted bail, he spirals into a deep depression fueled by self-loathing and guilt. Babitha and Rohit, who previously harbored resentment toward Aleena, undergo a change of heart as Aleena’s unconditional care for a struggling Rohit begins to dissolve his self-loathing and bridge the family's divide.
