It is located in the Northern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of 1,033 (31 December 2025)[2] and covers an area of 231.63 square kilometres (89.43 sq mi) of which 1.8 km2 (0.69 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 4.49 inhabitants per square kilometre (11.6/sq mi).
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
