MRHS was the first rural high school in Nova Scotia, and was designed by the architect Douglas A. Webber.^[1]

The school serves the communities of Middleton, Nictaux, Lawrencetown, Torbrook, Wilmot, Spa Springs, and Margaretsville.^[2]
