Misumenops pallens is a species of crab spider in the family Thomisidae. Originally described as Misumena pallens by Keyserling in 1880, it was transferred to the genus Misumenops by Petrunkevitch in 1911.[1] The species has a wide distribution range from Guatemala to Argentina.[1]
Misumenops pallens has a complex taxonomic history with numerous synonyms. Rinaldi (1983) conducted a comprehensive revision that established eleven species as synonyms of M. pallens, including Metadiaea melloleitaoi, M. dubitata, Misumena bianulata, M. viridis, M. rubromaculata, M. parva, Metadiaea dimidiata, M. ypirangae, Misumenoides eroticus, and M. mourei.[2] This synonymization was based on detailed morphological studies including examination of the internal structure of female epigynes, which revealed consistent characteristics across all examined specimens despite external variations in coloration and markings.[2]
