Sağlam began wrestling in 2000. He competed for IBB of Istanbul and was coached by Hakkı Başar from 2008 onward.[1]
In 2011, he won the gold medal at the 2011 Vehbi Emre Tournament in the 60 kg division.[1] At the 2011 European Wrestling Championships in Dortmund, he lost to Bulgaria's Ivo Angelov in the opening round, then defeated Spain's Baghumyan and Germany's Weiss in the repechage before beating Hungary's Kozak in the bronze-medal bout.[2][2]
In 2012, he won the Golden Grand Prix in the 60 kg category and again placed 10th at the 2012 Wrestling World Cup.[1] He also finished fifth at the Władysław Pytlasiński Cup.[1] In 2013, he won the gold medal at the Moscow Lights tournament in the 60 kg division.[1] He later continued to compete for Turkey at international tournaments including the Dan Kolov & Nikola Petrov Tournament and the Vehbi Emre & Hamit Kaplan Tournament.[1]
In 2024, he won the bronze medal in the 60 kg event at the 2024 Vehbi Emre & Hamit Kaplan Tournament.[4] In 2026, he won the silver medal in the same weight class at the same tournament.[5]
