Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Abalin left Russia,[7][5][8] and moved to Tbilisi, Georgia in March 2022.[9] Two years later, in March 2024, he received a visa from the European Union and settled in Lisbon, Portugal. After a year-long wait and a lengthy legal process, Abalin announced in March 2025 that he had finally received a Portuguese Residence Permit, and had therefore become a resident of the European Union.[10][non-primary source needed]
Abalin is also a musician, and releases self-penned lo-fi hip-hop music on SoundCloud under the pseudonym romaskosmodroma.
