The film received support from ITVS,[5][6] Catapult Film Fund,[7] Rooftop Films,[8] JustFilms/Ford Foundation,[9] Film Independent,[10] and deNovo Initiative,[11] Sam Pollard and Jacqueline Glover are among the executive producers.[12]
Release
It had its world premiere at Tribeca Festival on June 9, 2025, where it won Best Documentary Feature.[13][14] It also screened at DC/DOX Film Festival on June 13, 2025,[15][16] In August 2025, Oscilloscope acquired distribution rights to the film.[17] It was released on January 30, 2026.[18] It was broadcast on PBS as part of Independent Lens on May 11, 2026.[19]

On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 97% approval rating based on reviews from 34 critics.[20]
