Oran Young

Oran Young is a political scientist, International Relations scholar and environmental researcher, specializing on institution, international cooperation, and global governance, especially in the Arctic region. His works encompasses collective choice and social institutions, and applied research dealing with issues related to global environmental governance.[1][2] He received the Mohr prize in 2024 for his work.[3]
Young holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University, and a master's and PhD degree from Yale University. He is currently a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Bren School of Environmental Science of Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has been vocal on the needs to pay more geopolitical attention to the Arctic region.[3]
In 2004, he served as a co-chair for the Arctic Human Development Report. He is a founding chair of the Committee on the Human Dimensions of Climate Change of the National Academy of Sciences. He also served as a founding co-chair of the Global Carbon Project. From 2005 to 2010, he served on the Scientific Committee of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change.[1][4]
