The novel tells the story of Frankie Neumann, an introvert with an eccentric family, who dreams of becoming a street artist.[1]

Original Fake received a starred review from Publishers Weekly,[2] as well as positive reviews from the Lambda Literary Foundation,[3] The Horn Book Guide,[4] School Library Journal,[5] The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books,[6] Kirkus,[7] The Manhattan Book Review,[8] and Booklist.[9] The book was also selected by the Junior Library Guild.[4]
