Ovalipes australiensis, commonly known as the sand crab or the surf crab,[2][3] is a species of crab in the family Ovalipidae.[4] Its known range extends from Rottnest Island near Perth in Western Australia to just north of Brisbane in Wide Bay, Queensland.[5][6] It is endemic to southern Australia, and it is present in Tasmania.[5] It is typically found within 100 m (330 ft) from the shore.[7] It is fished commercially, amounting to about 1.5 t (3,300 lb) in 2019,[8][9] while levels of recreational fishing are negligible.[8]
