Paddy Doherty (boxer)

Doherty from Ballyshannon^[2] was a member of the Ballyshannon Amateur Boxing Club and represented Ulster at provincial level.^[3]

In 1968 he won the Irish junior title.^[1]

He represented the Northern Irish Commonwealth Games team^[4] at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland,^[5] where he participated in the light-middleweight category.^[6] He won a bronze medal^[7] after defeating Prince Amartey of Ghana in the quarter-final before being beaten in the final by Scotland's Tom Imrie.^[8]

In 1971 he fought in the 1971 European Championships^[9] before turning profesional in October 1971 under the management of Bobby Neill.^[10] He fought in eight professional bouts between 1971 and 1972^[11] and was boxing out of Dublin.^[12]
