Mohamed Pappu Hossain (Bengali: মোহামদ পাপ্পু হোসাইন; born 7 April 1999),[1] is a Bangladeshi professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Bangladesh Premier League club Abahani Limited Dhaka.[2]

Early life

Pappu trained under Ibrahim Khalil Kala at Arambagh Football Academy starting in 2009. He also participated in the 2011 JFA Cup and the 2012 Under-14 Festival Football Tournament in Nepal. In 2013, he had the opportunity to practice with the Under-18 team of Mohammedan SC.[3]

Club career

Pappu Hossain started his senior career with Arambagh KS.[2][4] He joined Saif Sporting Club in 2017,[5][6] where he won the award for best goalkeeper in the Bangladesh Premier League from the Bangladesh Football Supporters Forum.[7][8] He was also part of the club's 2018 AFC Cup qualification squad.[9] In 2019, he was loaned to Mohammedan SC.[10][11]

International career

In October 2019, Pappu gets his first-ever senior national team call up for a FIFA friendly against Bhutan.[12][10]

In November 2019, Pappu got a U-23 call up for 2019 South Asian Games.[13][14][15]

In July 2023, he was selected in the main squad for the 2022 Asian Games.[16]

Personal life

He is the nephew of Bangladesh national team player Sohel Rana.[12] His older brother Sujon Hossain also plays as a goalkeeper.[17]
