He studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, which he attended from 1979 to 1983.[2] After completing his degree, he began exploring painting and printing techniques at Stanley William Hayter's studio, Atelier 17.[3] After spending five years in Paris, he returned to his home in Bogotá. There he began work with the advertising agency McCann, where he became the company's Artistic Director.[4]
