Physint

Video game From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Physint (working title) is an upcoming action-adventure stealth game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game is described by Kojima Productions as an action-espionage game. It marks Hideo Kojima's return to the action-espionage genre following his work on the Metal Gear series. The cast currently features Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok and Minami Hamabe.

Development and marketing

Hideo Kojima and head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst announced Physint during a PlayStation State of Play presentation on January 31, 2024. The project was described as a new intellectual property (IP) combining elements of a video game and film production. Development was planned to enter full production following the completion of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach concurrently to Kojima Productions' other upcoming project, the horror game OD.[1]

When Physint was announced in January 2024, Kojima described the project as a return to the action-espionage genre while also emphasizing its connection to the film industry. The project was being developed in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment, with Sony Pictures subsidiary Columbia Pictures involved as part of Sony's plans to connect its video game and film businesses. Kojima described Physint as a new type of entertainment that would combine the interactive nature of a video game with elements of film production.[2][3] Development was affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike, which temporarily suspended casting for the game in 2024.[4]

Kojima Productions provided an update on Physint during the studio's 10th anniversary event, Beyond The Strand, held on September 23, 2025. Kojima confirmed that the game had entered development and described it as the next stage of the studio's action-espionage work. The event presented the game's first key artwork, featuring its protagonist obscured by shadow, and revealed three actors cast for the project: Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok, and Minami Hamabe. Their roles were not disclosed.[5] Kojima said that the game's characters and story were still being developed and that the project would experiment with new technology. He also reiterated his intention to blur the distinction between video games and films, with Physint intended to combine cinematic presentation with interactive gameplay.[6] The anniversary presentation also included the promotional tagline "Here Comes the Feeling" and described the game as the "next stage of tactical espionage action". Kojima stated that ''Physint'' would use technology and production techniques intended to further reduce the boundary between games and movies.[7]

In mid-June 2026, Sony Interactive Entertainment informed Kojima Productions that it would end its collaboration on Physint. Sony described the decision as a difficult one and said that it continued to have admiration for Kojima's vision and that its relationship with Kojima Productions remained strong. Kojima subsequently said that Sony's termination of the game was unexpected and that the project was important to both himself and Kojima Productions. He added that the studio spent approximately three months searching for a new publishing partner.[8] On September 9, 2026, Xbox announced that Xbox Game Studios would publish Physint as part of an expanded partnership with Kojima Productions.[9] The agreement extends the companies' existing collaboration on OD. Kojima said that the partnership would allow development of Physint to continue and that the two companies shared a common vision for the future.[10] Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said that Xbox supported Kojima's creative vision and his approach to challenging established conventions in games.[11][12]
