Port Wine is a former rural locality in the Barcaldine Region, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2016 census, Port Wine had a population of 27 people.[1]

On 22 November 2019, the Queensland Government decided to amalgamate the localities in the Barcaldine Region, resulting in five expanded localities based on the larger towns: Alpha, Aramac, Barcaldine, Jericho and Muttaburra. Port Wine was incorporated into Alpha.[3][4][5]

The Central Western railway line forms the northern boundary of the locality. The Capricorn Highway also traverses the north of the locality from east to west but diverges south from the railway line unlike other localities in which the railway and highway are adjacent.[6]

The western branch of the Belyando River enters the locality from the south-west (Sedgeford) while the eastern branch rises in the south of the locality. The two branches merge within the locality and then flow north to exit the locality to the north-west (Beaufort).[6] The Beylando River is a tributary to the Suttor River, and then the Burdekin River, within the North East Coast drainage basin.[6]

The predominant land use is grazing on native vegetation.[6]

The abandoned town of Pinehill (23°39′00″S 146°57′00″E / 23.6500°S 146.9500°E / -23.6500; 146.9500 (Pinehill, Queensland)) is in the most northern part of the locality immediately south of the Pinehill railway station (23°39′01″S 146°57′23″E / 23.6503°S 146.9565°E / -23.6503; 146.9565 (Pinehill railway station)).[7][8]
