Preaxostyla
Group of excavate protists
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Preaxostyla, also known as Anaeromonadea,[1][2] is a group of excavate protists, comprising the oxymonads, Trimastix,[3] and Paratrimastix.[4] This group is studied as a model system for reductive evolution of mitochondria,[5] because it includes both organisms with anaerobic mitochondrion-like organelles (Trimastix[6] and Paratrimastix[7]), and those that have completely lost their mitochondria (oxymonads Monocercomonoides,[8] Streblomastix, and Blattamonas[6]).
