Rancho Salsipuedes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rancho Salsipuedes was a 31,201-acre (126.27 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Santa Cruz County, California. Two leagues (8,856 acres or 3,584 ha) were granted in 1834 by Governor José Figueroa to Francisco de Haro.[1] Eight leagues were granted in 1840 by Governor Juan Alvarado to Manuel Jimeno Casarín. The name means "go out if you can" in Spanish. Salsipuedes encompasses the mountainous area west of Gilroy, straddling the Santa Clara County - Santa Cruz County line (only about 5,400 acres or 21.9 km2 are in Santa Clara County).[2][3]
