Gameplay

ReStory is a simulation video game where the player runs an electronics repair shop in Akihabara, Tokyo in the 2000s.[3] The goal is to disassemble, clean, and reassemble pieces from customers, from phones to cameras and music players.[4] The repair shop partially owes a yakuza clan cash, and the player must pay them money for protection, rent, and utilities.[3]

There are different endings depending on how the player completes the objectives and interacts with non-player characters.[5]

Development and release

ReStory was developed by Mandragora, the creator of I Am Future: Cozy Apocalypse Survival.[4] It was directed by Evgeny Kisterev.[6] The game includes officially-licensed Atari consoles as part of partnership with the company.[4]

Publisher tinyBuild announced the game in December 2025.[6] A demo was released in June 2026 for Steam Next Fest.[7] It was released on 6 August 2026 for Windows.[8] Shortly after release, tinyBuild caused controversy when it permanently revoked 649 keys for being sold on grey market sites, which CEO Alex Nichiporchik described as "shady key reseller[s]", at discounted prices outside their region. This also caused some Green Man Gaming keys to be revoked, although those customers were sent replacement keys.[9]

Reception

ReStory was a commercial success at launch. The game made back its budget within 12 hours.[11] It sold 300,000 copies in the debut week.[9]
