Rehabilitation of wrongful convictions
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The rehabilitation of wrongful convictions (Chinese: 平反冤假错案; pinyin: Píngfǎn yuān jiǎ cuò'àn) refers to a series of activities to re-judge certain wrongly judged cases that began after the 1949 founding of the People's Republic of China during the Anti-Rightist Campaign. It is an important part of the Boluan Fanzheng led by Deng Xiaoping, Hu Yaobang and others after the end of the Cultural Revolution. According to official documents such as the People's Daily article Correcting Wrongs and Establishing a Monument published on 1 June 1989, more than three million wrongful convictions were redressed nationwide in the years following 1978. By the end of 1982, the large-scale redress work across the country was basically completed.
