Composition and lyrics
Compared to his last album, which heavily relied on electronic sounds, Wilson decided to primarily use real instruments. When asked, he said: "I wanted to get back to a kind of music where you can hear the metaphorical thumbprints. Doubling down on the human gestures and flaws in the music, stuff that can't be created using software".[1]
Promotion and release
On 7 September 2026, Wilson launched a website and released a short trailer for the album, featuring Scottish actor David Tennant narrating and bearing the title "The village is alive. Welcome to the village".[2] The website was described as sporting a "delightfully retro, old-school internet design".[3]
