Richard Romm

Richard Michael Romm (born January 11, 1978) is an American historian, author, and communications executive. He specializes in early American history and has contributed to communications and public relations in finance, international development, and cultural heritage.

Early life and education

Romm was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history with a minor in political science from Rutgers University–New Brunswick and a Master of Arts in American History from Rutgers University–Camden. He was initiated into the Phi Alpha Theta history honor society in 2008.[1]

Historical scholarship

In 2010 Romm submitted his thesis America's First Whaling Industry and the Whaler Yeomen of Cape May: 1630–1830 (2011), arguing that American whaling originated in Delaware Bay with the Dutch colony Zwaanendael rather than New England.[2]

He has lectured on early Philadelphia history, including the Schuylkill Fishing Company of Pennsylvania, the oldest continuously operating social club in the English-speaking world.[3]

Romm is co-authoring a forthcoming book with local writer Maggie Weir-Wilson titled Horsham Quakers, exploring the history of Quakers in West Sussex and Pennsylvania.[4]

Career

Romm is founder and company director of Romm Global Advisors Ltd.[5]

Previously, he served as Senior Communications Advisor at Jada Fund of Funds, a Saudi Public Investment Fund company, where he helped bring the first SuperReturn event to Saudi Arabia.[6]

He previously served as Global PR and Communications Manager for North America and Europe at the Future Investment Initiative Institute.[7]

Romm has contributed to communications and media projects for Red Sea Global, the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, and Siemens Saudi Arabia, supporting projects aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. He also worked as a writer and editor at the World Bank and International Finance Corporation, contributing to development publications including The World Bank in Action: Stories of Development.[8][9]
