The 1st Baronet's third son William was knighted by Charles I. He was a soldier of the Dutch Republic during the Thirty Years War and Governor of Doesburg.^[2][9] Archibald Riddell, third son of the 2nd Baronet, was a minister of the Reformed church in Edinburgh and Covenanter.^[10]
