Robert Bennett (geographer)

Bennett was a lecturer at University College London from 1973 to 1978, then a lecturer at the University of Cambridge from 1978 to 1985. He was appointed professor of geography at the London School of Economics in 1985, serving until 1996 when he moved to the University of Cambridge. There, he was Professor of Geography (1931) from 1996 to 2010, senior associate at the Judge Business School and (from 1996 to 2000) a Leverhulme research professor (from 1996 to 2000)^[3] and a fellow of St Catharine's College (from 1996 to 2010).^[4] Since retiring in 2011, he has been an emeritus professor of geography at Cambridge and an emeritus fellow at St Catharine's College, Cambridge.^[3]

Bennett was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley in 1978, an international fellow at the University of Minnesota in 1985, and a university fellow in George Mason University in 1989.^[3] He was elected a fellow of the British Academy in 1991.^[5] He was general editor of the journal Government and Policy from 1982 to 2008 and co-editor from 2008 to 2016. He was also a recipient of the Royal Geographical Society's Founder's Medal in 1998.^[4]
