SILVER wiki is a by-product of the SILVER ERC, led by Francis Albarède focuses on two types of numismatic data: die-studies of ancient coinages and Greek overstrikes, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of the production and circulation of money in the Mediterranean basin. It brings together and makes accessible two databases launched by François de Callataÿ in the 1990s. [1]
Silver was the primary metal of economic exchange and military finances in ancient Mediterranean and Near-Eastern societies. Silver isotopes will help quantify monetization of these societies by identifying Ag mineral sources, monetary sinks, and its major transfer routes. High-precision stable Ag isotope analysis initiated in Lyon has shed new light on the provenance of silver coinage. [2]
This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement n°741454 - SILVER).[3]
