Sam Mangel (born February 25, 1963) is an American federal prison consultant.[1][2] Mangel served 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud in an insurance fraud scheme.[3][4][5] Mangel is also a CNN and NPR contributor on the topics of federal incarceration, white-collar crime,[6][7][8] and the federal clemency system in the United States.[9]
Mangel was indicted in 2016 for wire fraud and illegal insurance business practices in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.[6] Through his company Rumson Capital Inc., located in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, Mangel operated a life insurance policy brokerage that facilitated the sale of existing life insurance policies to life settlement providers. His charges related to falsifying and forging life insurance policy disclosure documents in Pennsylvania.[10][11]
He was sentenced to 60 months in prison but returned home in 2020 after serving 20 months at Federal Correctional Institution, Miami.[3][12]
