History
ScheduleReader was originally developed by Seavus, a Swedish software company, and first released in 2016 under the name PrimaveraReader.[1] The product was created to allow project stakeholders to view Primavera P6 schedule files without purchasing a full Oracle Primavera P6 license.[3]
In October 2018, version 6.0 was released, at which point the product was rebranded as ScheduleReader to better reflect its expanded support for schedule file formats beyond Oracle Primavera's native .xer format.[1][4] The rebranding was subsequently noted in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Technical Reference Model, a catalogue of approved technologies used by the agency.[5]
Following the corporate separation of Seavus into Qinshift and Synami in 2023, responsibility for ScheduleReader's development passed to Synami, the Malta-based successor company for Seavus's software products division.[6]
Overview
ScheduleReader reads project data from .xer and .xml files, which users can filter, organize, and share with project stakeholders.[2] The software is available as a trialware product; a paid license is required to access full functionality beyond the trial period.[3] It supports the following file formats:
- .xer (Oracle Primavera P6 native format)
- .xml (Primavera P6 XML and Microsoft Project XML)
- .xlsx (P6 format spreadsheet export)
The software has been listed in project management tools directories maintained by independent project management consultancies as a viewer for XER, XML, and XLS schedule files.[7]
Features
ScheduleReader provides multiple project views, including Activities, WBS, Projects (Enterprise Project Structure), Resource Assignments, OBS (Organizational Breakdown Structure), and Roles.[3] A Gantt chart view is available for all activities, alongside a detail view for individual items.[8]
Additional features include:
- Baseline comparison for reviewing multiple versions of a project schedule[8]
- Import of Primavera P6 layouts via .plf files[1]
- Activity filtering and search by multiple parameters[1]
- DCMA 14-Point Schedule Health Check assessment[2]
- Trace Logic view for critical path analysis[8]
- Determination of the source Primavera P6 version from an .xer file[1]
Editions
ScheduleReader is available in two editions:[3]
- Standard – Core viewing, filtering, and navigation features.
- PRO – Includes built-in reports and a dashboard for creating, importing, exporting, and sharing graphical schedule reports.
Reception
Independent reviews from project management professionals have assessed ScheduleReader as a practical tool for distributing schedule access to team members and stakeholders who do not hold Oracle Primavera P6 licenses.[1][2] Ten Six Consulting, an Oracle Primavera partner, published a dedicated review describing the software's core functionality and positioning within the project controls toolset.[2] Virtual Project Consulting reviewed the software under its earlier name PrimaveraReader, noting its utility for engineering project environments where schedule visibility across a wider team is required.[3] Plan Academy, a project management training provider, assessed the software in the context of its cost relative to a full Primavera P6 Professional license.[1]
ScheduleReader has been integrated as a compatible viewing tool by RiskyProject, a risk analysis software platform developed by Intaver Institute, which lists it as a supported schedule viewer for XER, XML, and XLSX files.[9]
