The first place in Schenkendöbern to be mentioned in print was the village of Krayne in 1465.[3]

Parts of the municipality are in the Sorbian settlement area; in those areas, the German and Lower Sorbian languages have equal status.[4]

History

From 1815 to 1947, Schenkendöbern was part of the Prussian Province of Brandenburg. From 1952 to 1990, it was part of the Bezirk Cottbus of East Germany.
