The company develops non-contact optical 3D surface metrology systems based on confocal microscopy, interferometry, and focus variation.[2][3]
Its instruments are used in research laboratories, industrial quality inspection, and advanced manufacturing environments.[3]
Another business unit, Sensofar Medical, designs optical inspection systems for implantable medical devices and components, as well as equipment used in biomedical research.[1]
Research, standardization and recognition
Sensofar’s optical metrology systems have been used in scientific research applications, including studies related to gravitational wave instrumentation[4] and in archaeological and paleoanthropological research.[5]
Researchers associated with Sensofar have contributed to the field of surface metrology through scientific publications and conference presentations in international forums such as SPIE Photonics West.[6]
In the field of standardization, Roger Artigas, founder and CTO of Sensofar, has participated in the development of the ISO 25178 standard for areal surface texture as part of the ISO technical working group WG16.[7]
Sensofar has participated in European research and innovation projects related to industrial metrology and advanced manufacturing, including TracOptic, COMETA and FAUSTO.[8][9][10]
The company has received industry recognition for its technological developments, including the Photonics Spectra Circle of Excellence Award in 2004,[11] and the Robert L. Kersman Award of Excellence for Best Paper at the Aluminum Anodizers Council conference in 2014.[12]
