Composition

The song finds Drake mocking his rivals,[1] while Quavo provides ad-libs. Drake makes references to rapper 21 Savage and singer Bryson Tiller.[2][3]

Reception

The song received generally positive reviews. Armon Sadler of Billboard ranked it as the 13th best song from Iceman, describing Quavo's ad-libs as "refreshing" and his appearance as "the icing on the cake for a solid record."[4] Jeff Ihaza of Rolling Stone wrote that the song "lands squarely in the joyous realm of the kind of hits he used to deliver with ease."[5] Abe Beame of GQ called it "a swaggering anthem you can already hear a dancefloor full of bros in suit vests shouting along to", and opined that it would have been the "conventional" lead single.[3] Offset and Leon Thomas have considered "Shabang" the "song of the summer".[6][7]

Music video

The music video for "Shabang" was released on May 15, 2026. It focuses on a large controlled explosion and features Drake's silhouette; the explosives' footage was a majority of the runtime. The explosion was filmed on the evening of April 16, 2026, at Downsview Park in North York, Toronto.[8] The production was permitted by the City of Toronto under the name "Project Bot", a Special Effects (SPFX) permit was issued; Toronto Fire Services and Toronto Police Service were involved in advance of the shoot.[9][10] Downsview Park had posted a notice on both its website and social media, warning the planned pyrotechnic effects taking place during the week of April 13, advising that residents may notice loud noises, flashes of light, and smoke in the area.[11] Regardless, nearby residents who had not seen the notice were alarmed after seeing the explosion. Local Ward 6 councillor James Pasternak told CP24 that residents were "shocked out of their beds" by the explosion as a mushroom cloud emerged over the neighbourhood.[12]

Remixes

In late May 2026, a mashup of the song with the nursery rhyme "Hickory Dickory Dock" was released and immediately went viral online.[13]
