The bridge spans the Pearl River and is located between the cities of Nansha District and Humen Town.[3]

The bridge will break five world records when completed.[4]

  1. Main span length = 2,180 m (the Messina Bridge will beat it at 3,300 m)
  2. Tower height = 340.2 m[1][5] (the Messina Bridge will beat it at 399 m)
  3. Foundation diameter 130 m (the Messina Bridge is 55 m on the Sicily side)
  4. Cable thickness 150 cm (the Messina Bridge is 126 cm but has two)
  5. Number of lanes 16, 8 per level (the Messina Bridge has 4 + 2 emergency lanes)

A previous design included A-shaped towers with a height of 367 meters.[6][7]
