Sohini Sarkar

2006–2014: Television and early career

Sarkar began her acting career on Bengali television with Ekdin Pratidin on Zee Bangla. She subsequently appeared in serials including Ogo Bodhu Sundori and Bhoomikanya, becoming a familiar face on Bengali television. Adwitiya marked her first soap opera in the lead role. While continuing to work on television, she made her feature film debut with Rupkatha Noy (2013), followed by Phoring in the same year, marking her transition to Bengali cinema.^[3]

2015–2019: Breakthrough in films

Sarkar's breakthrough came with Open Tee Bioscope (2015), directed by Anindya Chatterjee, in which she played the female lead.^[9] The same year, she portrayed Satyabati in Har Har Byomkesh, beginning a recurring association with the Byomkesh film series that continued in Byomkesh Pawrbo, Biday Byomkesh and Byomkesh Gotro.^[3] During this period, she also appeared in films such as Rajkahini, Cinemawala, Durga Sohay, Crisscross, Vinci Da, Bibaho Obhijaan and others.^[10]

Her performance in Open Tee Bioscope earned her the West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Most Promising Actress. She subsequently received nominations at the Filmfare Awards Bangla, for her performance in Bibaho Diaries.^[3]

2020–present: Streaming projects and continued success

From 2020 onwards, Sarkar appeared in several web series released on streaming platforms including Judgement Day, Mandaar, Srikanto, Sampurna, Durgo Rawhoshyo and Karma Korma.^[5][11]

During the same period, Sarkar appeared in films including Kabuliwala (2023), Athhoi (2024) and Raghu Dakat (2025).^[12] In 2026, she starred in Phera, directed by Pritha Chakraborty. She is scheduled to play a pivotal role in Bohurupi: The Golden Daku, a spin-off to Bohurupi.^[13]
