Design

The Sonic 23 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fibreglass, with wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig, a transom-hung rudder and a fixed fin keel. It also has a pop-up companionway hatch. It displaces 3,400 lb (1,542 kg) and carries 1,500 lb (680 kg) of iron ballast.[1][2][3]
The boat has a draft of 3.75 ft (1.14 m) with the standard keel. It has provisions for an outboard motor.[1][3]
The boat has a PHRF racing average handicap of 228 with a high of 240 and low of 225. It has a hull speed of 5.99 kn (11.09 km/h).[2][3]
