Stefanie Ann Sargent (June 1, 1968 – June 27, 1992) was an American musician. She was the lead guitarist and co-founder of the Seattle-based punk rock band 7 Year Bitch.[1][2]
Sargent struggled with heroin addiction and was sober for eight months until she relapsed shortly before her death. After consuming alcohol and heroin at a party, she returned to her Seattle apartment and died from asphyxiation after choking on her vomit on June 27, 1992 at the age of 24. The band's debut studio album and the only one to feature Sargent, Sick 'Em (1992), was scheduled to be released prior to her death, but was postponed and eventually released four months later. The band's second album, ¡Viva Zapata!, was released in 1994 as a tribute to Sargent.
Sargent was born to Paula and Kenneth Sargent on June 1, 1968, in Seattle, Washington, where she was raised.[3] She attended Roosevelt High School, then transferred to the Summit K-12 Alternative School, and graduated at age 16.[3]
Career
After leaving high school, Sargent worked various jobs and traveled across the West Coast.[3] She was a member of several bands, including Barbie's Dream Car.[4]
In 1990, she co-founded 7 Year Bitch alongside Selene Vigil, Valerie Agnew and Elizabeth Davis.[3] The band made their debut opening for The Gits, then played at a Books for Prisoners Benefit concert.[4] Sargent played guitar on the band's debut record, Sick 'Em (1992).[3][5]
