The Support Forces are a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine combining the elements engineering troops, radiological, chemical, and biological defence forces, geospatial support, and hydrometeorological and canine services.

In December 2004, the Central Directorate of Engineering Troops of the Main Directorate of Operational Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine became part of the Support Forces Command.
In accordance with the requirements of the directive of the minister of defense of Ukraine, the Command of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was disbanded in 2010.
In early February 2020, in accordance with the joint directives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a new command was created - the Support Forces Command.[1] It was created on the basis of the Main Directorate of Operational Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.[2]
