Talaroo is an outback locality in the Shire of Etheridge, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2021 census, Talaroo had a population of 5 people.[1]

The terrain in the north and west of the locality is mountainous with a number of named peaks and passes, all in the north of the locality (from north to south):[3]

The Einasleigh River enters the locality from the south-east (Einasleigh / Mount Surprise) and exits to the north (Abingdon Downs). It becomes a tributary of the Gilbert River which flows into the Gulf of Carpentaria.[3]

The land use is predominantly grazing on native vegetation.[3]

History

The locality was officially named and bounded on 23 June 2000.[2]

In the 2016 census, Talaroo had "no people or a very low population".[8]

In the 2021 census, Talaroo had a population of 5 people.[1]
