- ... that New Zealand's 1974 Dunedin earthquake is the biggest earthquake to have occurred in the city since its founding?
- Source: https://bulletin.nzsee.org.nz/index.php/bnzsee/article/view/1230 (click the PDF button) "The earthquake in the early evening of Tuesday, 9 April, 1974 was the strongest known to have affected the city of Dunedin since its founding in the middle of the last century."

- I'd recommend rewording the hook to specify Dunedin is a city for people unfamiliar with it e.g. 'The 1974 Dunedin earthquake is the biggest to have occurred in Dunedin since the city was founded' Traumnovelle (talk) 00:27, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thought that the current hook is quite boring (and it does not comply with WP:DYKFIRST) so I've proposed a second hook. ALT1:
- "... that the 1974 Dunedin earthquake in New Zealand caused an unusually high amount of damage for its low magnitude?"

The article is new and sufficiently long. Sources look good. I see no copyright or neutrality issues. QPQ is done. Could you please quote the source for the hook fact, Panamitsu? What I see in the article seems to refer to money paid for damage claims rather than damage itself. Surtsicna (talk) 07:52, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- Yes Surtsicna, the source says "
The number of claims received by the Earthquake and War Damage Commission was extraordinarily large for an earthquake of this magnitude.
" To me the damage and money paid for damage claims can be thought of as the same in this context, or do you think I should re-word the hook? Panamitsu (talk) 08:00, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- Yes Surtsicna, the source says "
