Localized Counterattacks
There has been localized counterattacks in Donetsk Oblast and a bit in Kharkiv Oblast as Well like south of Kostiantynivka and Yampil, Ukrainian Reentrance into Vovchansk and the capturing of the towns of Ozerne and Minkivka. ISW sources:

2026 Ukrainian counteroffensive → 2026 Southern Ukraine counteroffensive – The current name is too vague. "2026 Ukrainian counteroffensive" makes it sound like it's happening over all of Ukraine, despite the fact that it's localized to southern Dnipropetrovsk and eastern Zaporizhia. While Ukraine has made gains in other areas at the same time (e.g. in Kostyantynivka) they are not part of the operation this article is about. The offensive has no obvious common name among reliable sources, so WP:COMMONNAME does not factor into this. Therefore, we should base our name off of criteria highlighted at WP:AT instead. The proposed name "2026 Southern Ukraine counteroffensive" is precise enough (WP:PRECISION) while still being recognizable enough that people can actually find it.

Change the name
Change the name "2026 Ukrainian counteroffensive" to "2026 Southern Ukrainian counteroffensive" as the name "2026 Ukrainian counteroffensive" is still there. American Angel1 (talk) 00:22, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Remove unsourced claim from infobox or provide a source
Subject: Ukraine recaptured 450km2 of land including the recapture of Teruvate and Kyrprchen.
Either provide a source for the 450km² or remove it.
On top of that, it's Ternuvate, not Teruvate. Should it be mentioned if it's just a rural settlement? What about any other rural settlements and villages that changed hands?
And where is Kyrprchen supposed to be? Never heard of that settlement, definitely not notable enough to mention in the info box.
And if you keep (part of) the claim, at least fix the formatting.

Article expansion
Hi @Grilledcheeseisgreat:, I was not able to respond at the time you opened the RM above. In the meantime, the Ukrainian counteroffensive operations have extended into Donetsk Oblast . Therefore, I am planning to expand this article with the western Donetsk, Novopavlivka and possibly also Lyman fronts. The idea is to divide the counteroffensive into several ‘front sections’ with accompanying headings, similar to what was done over at the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive (see also this recent discussion as background, courtesy ping @Super Dromaeosaurus:).
Should this scope expansion get support, I believe a move back to the former name 2026 Ukrainian counteroffensive would be warranted. Let me know what you think. Regards, I Know I'm Not Alone (talk) 10:56, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

- I support. At the time, it was WP:TOOSOON to determine how long-term the Donetsk counterattacks would be. Since that RM, however, it's become apparent that they are an organized, months-long operation. I believe that my RM had a more suitable title at the time it was proposed, but moving back to the original title now is clearly appropriate. Grilledcheeseisgreat ✉ 18:33, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

Is "counter offensive" the correct term?
A counter offensive is typically in response to an offensive, although I must admit exact definitions vary. The article for the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive also mentions this at the start. Obviously the term counter offensive has been used for practically all Ukrainian offensives, and for most readers it wont matter, so this is mostly just being pedantic.
Has there been significant enough Russian assaults in the region to justify the term counter offensive? AverageCheeseRoll (talk) 01:00, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
