There are way too many images on the right side, which creates a huge blank space between Urbanization and Race and Ethnicity sections. Thence, I suggest moving the Rock art at Serra da Capivara National Park image to the left, on the Pre-Cabraline era section, the painting of Emperor Pedro II to the Independent Empire section (it is currently in the early republic), remove entirely the photos of Presidents Lula and Trump and that of the 17th BRICS summit logo, as it doesn't fit anything really on the article. Other than that, I'd remove one of the geography images (there's simply too many images) and the construction of Brasilia photo (which, from all the historic images, is the less relevant ). If not removing, some of those images should be passed to the left side of the article. Is it possible that this is your browser? Because I see a large table at the bottom of the Urbanisation section. Slomo666 (talk) 17:28, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

Anachronism

@Agent010: It is incorrect to say that in 1532, the country's first city, São Vicente, was founded in the Captaincy of São Vicente, because in 1532, the Captaincy of São Vicente did not yet exist. This is described correctly in the section on Portuguese colonization: Though the first settlement, São Vicente, was founded in 1532, colonization effectively began in 1534, when King John III of Portugal divided the territory into the fifteen private and autonomous captaincies.

If, in the lead, you want to mention the captaincy of São Vicente in this sentence, you could say, "... was founded in what became the Captaincy of São Vicente". My own preference would be to omit mentioning the captaincy at all in the lead, but I would defer to your judgment.

The caption of the accompanying illustration (in the Portuguese colonization section) says, The founding of São Vicente, in the state of São Paulo, marks the effective beginning of colonization in Brazil, in 1532. This has a similar anachronism, and it could be fixed similarly, perhaps by saying "... in what is now the state of São Paulo ...". Bruce leverett (talk) 04:13, 16 January 2026 (UTC)

@Bruce leverett, the idea is simply to situate the reader by showing them where São Vicente is located. If you ask "where is Rio de Janeiro located?", the answer will be: "Brazil". If you ask "where is São Vicente located?", you will hardly get the same answer. The intention is not to resort to anachronism (especially since explaining every detail of the founding year of each city, how it was founded, and the context in which its founding occurred is verbose), but only to give the reader a coordinate based on what we know today. Imagine referring to Brazil from the 15th to the 18th centuries as "Pindorama (indigenous), Ilha de Vera Cruz, Land of Brazil or State of Brazil" simply out of supposed "historical accuracy" (which, obviously, is important given the context). The city of São Vicente is located in the current state of São Paulo. In the article, the name "Rio de Janeiro" appears in the caption to represent something from 1818; at the time, the official name was "São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro", before that, the territory was known as: "Guanabara". Later, it was changed to Neutral Municipality, Federal District and State of Guanabara.
Regarding your sugestion in the led: "... was founded in what became the Captaincy of São Vicente", I agree. Same to: "... in what is now the state of São Paulo ...". I think that's better. Best regards.--Agent010 (talk) 22:39, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
Ah, and the Pedro Taques de Almeida Pais Leme's book *History of the Captaincy of São Vicente* highlights the importance of the founding of São Vicente, which marks the beginning of effective colonization (post-pre-colonial period of Brazil), and was designated as the first official Portuguese settlement in Brazil and where the first elections in the Americas took place. The city is known as the "cradle of Portuguese colonization" and also as the "cradle of American democracy".--Agent010 (talk) 23:02, 16 January 2026 (UTC)

Racial miscigenation on Brazil (source: https://revistapesquisa.fapesp.br/en/brazilians-are-even-more-mixed-race-than-you-think/#:~:text=It%20is%20no%20surprise%20to,variants%20with%20potential%20health%20consequences.)

Brazil is one of the most racially mixed countries in the world, a process that dates back to ancient times. This contrasts with countries such as the United States, Australia, and Japan, which are generally more homogeneous. In Brazil, it is not easy to determine a person’s origin based solely on their skin color or appearance, as is more common in traditional societies. For example, a white person in Brazil may have African, Indigenous, European, and other ancestral backgrounds. ~2026-84527-6 (talk) 15:46, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
