I am planning to review this by the end of the week. Thank you for making a pledge! Please add your pledged reviews to the table at WP:GARP when you start them. —Kusma (talk) 17:57, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay! I had a medical emergency in the family last week (now hopefully resolved) that took priority over everything else. Will be done by end of this week, hopefully earlier. —Kusma (talk) 18:24, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- Don't even worry about it @Kusma, with stuff like this WP:VOLUNTEER always applies. Dr vulpes (Talk) 18:50, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
Content and prose review
I will comment on anything I notice, but not all of my comments will be strictly related to the GA criteria, so not everything needs to be actioned. Feel free to push back if you think I am asking too much, and please tell me when I am wrong.
- Lead: will comment later.
- Infobox: Date and place of birth do not have an obvious source in the article.
- Date of birth in the article seems cited to an interview that just says "December 1942 in Leicester".
- Early life and religious work: you could mention date and place of birth here. Do we know the names and professions of her parents? (I think these are sort of standard bio material if we have them).
Their families had moved to Canada out of concern about the spread of communism
who are "they"? Previously you only talked about the uncle's family. Or was her family also concerned about communism? In any case, how reliable is the info that they were fleeing from communism?- It might be good to say somewhere that Coll and Morrissey became a couple in 1977, after the death of Coll's parents .
during her time in Albany that Morrissey would meet her future life partner, fellow nun Bridget Coll
looks like a slight WP:WOULDCHUCK violation to me; consider simplifying to "During her time in Albany she met ..."- Seems they asked to go to Chile (article could be read as if they were sent without having expressed any interest)
- Immigration challenge: "Their case ... Their case ..." a bit repetitive
independent immigrant category
so she made an application in her own name instead of as Morrissey's partner? With the government settling the case without a ruling it allowed a ruling on the issue to be dropped
this needs a bit of copyediting. Do you mean that the government avoided making a decision on whether Coll was to be considered as Morrissey's partner by granting her leave to remain on her own merits? The significance of the case was that the Canadian government admitted they were unable to win the case and that undue discrimination was occurring because of immigration legislation.
did they admit that? The story told earlier just said they made the problem go away.- Later life:
an active member of the LGBT community throughout her life
so even before she got together with Coll? What do we know about her LGBT community life while in the closet? Or did the activity only start later? Morrissey also founded Rainbow Refugee ... The organisation she founded
no need to repeat that she founded this org. I have also added a comma to clarify the sentence structure.- Link Vancouver Pride Parade and make it uppercase.
- The section could potentially be split into "LGBT advocacy" (or similar) and "Later life and death".
her partner, Coll,
...Her partner Bridget
this makes it look like they were two different people, especially with the choice of commas. Standard is to use last names throughout.
A very interesting life with two quite distinct phases. She'd be interesting enough as a lesbian nun, but lesbian nun turned LGBT community advocate and leading a Pride Parade is quite something. I am wondering whether more can/should be said about her religious life (especially about the activism in Chile) and her partner, but I guess I'll find out when I dive into the sources. The writing could do with a little polishing and clarifying here and there, but that looks manageable. —Kusma (talk) 14:10, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
- A few improvements have been made so the article looks not bad overall, but there are still too many things to be addressed for me to just pass the article. @Dr vulpes: I am going to close this as unsuccessful for now, but once you come back from your break and deal with the remaining points, please renominate and I would be happy to look at it again (should be quick the second time round). —Kusma (talk) 13:03, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
Source spotchecks
Numbering from Special:PermanentLink/1351026987.
- 1a, 2a, 3a: I don't see a need to cite this in the lead at all, and certainly not three times.
- 4: it would be great to have some timestamps to be able to check what is in this source more easily. I listened in a bit and did find out that her father was a businessman and her mother stayed at home after the marriage. I also assume the family was Catholic (not super common in England), which should be something we can find out from this source.
- 5a, 6a, 7: could not access 7, but 5a and 6a confirm this.
- 8a: I couldn't find any of the information in this source. Happy to believe it is in 4, but I don't want to listen to a 1 hour interview.
- 6b: I am not totally sure "serve the church" is a good description for their community work. This source is pretty neat; some more content on Coll (her Irish Catholic background for example) would be a good addition to the article.
- 8b: yes.
- 9/11: great sources on Coll and the time in Chile. Might be worth exploiting a little more. You could link to .
OK, these weren't really "spotchecks"; I am interested in the pre-return to Canada life, so I looked in some detail. No major issues from a source to text integrity or close paraphrasing point of view so far, just one question about 8a. Will look at the rest soon. —Kusma (talk) 20:40, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
- 14: a few comments here. (a) this is a student newspaper? Not the greatest of sources and the info used in the article surely is elsewhere. (b) If you do use it, they also say that Coll was a US citizen at the time (but that is also in 24) and had a 2.5 year work visa.
- 16a: ok.
- 17/18: more student/university newspapers, not particularly great sources for events not happening on campus...
- 24: yes, but more precisely, "Soon after the Morrissey lawsuit was filed, immigration officials asked Coll to fill out an application under the independent immigrant class, ostensibly for the purposes of the lawsuit. However, that form was then quickly processed to grant her residency status in October, 1992, not as a sponsored family class member but as an independent immigrant. Morrissey and Coll were the first to benefit from a new policy adopted by the Canadian government to respond to gay and lesbian sponsorship applications. Although Coll was granted the right to stay in Canada, the couple was denied the opportunity to challenge the law." so Coll agreed to an additional application instead of forcing the lawsuit.
Should get the rest done in a few hours. —Kusma (talk) 14:04, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
- 5b: " long-time, beloved and well-known 2SLGBTQ+ advocate" isn't the same as "active member of the LGBT community throughout her life". Couldn't access 29 but didn't try very hard.
- 47 is the same as 2.
- 49: fine.
Source checks done. —Kusma (talk) 16:23, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
General comments and GA criteria
- Prose could do with some polishing, see above.
- No major MoS issues.
- Lead just about summarises the article. I'd probably put in more about her activism in Chile, but that's optional.
- Reference layout easily passes the bar for GA.
- Sources are probably reliable, but there are some question marks over student newspapers. The interview could possibly be better with attribution, but it passes the GA bar.
- Everything is essentially covered by the sources, no OR.
- I didn't see copyvio, and neither did Mr Earwig.
- Broadness: I think the early life is somewhat underrepresented, but it is mentioned, so this is a near pass.
- No neutrality or stability issues.
- A picture of her (or of her and Coll) would be very nice. It is possible to write a NFUR for some of the images found online, but I won't insist if you are WP:VEGAN.
- Image is ok, just about relevant enough.
Done reviewing! Sorry again that it took so long. Over to you Dr vulpes. —Kusma (talk) 16:34, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks @Kusma I'll start to chip away at this now. I got caught up with cleaning AI slop. Dr vulpes (Talk) 01:41, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

- @Kusma: Although Dr vulpes performed an action today, before this their last edit was in May. If they do not respond soon, I think this might have to be closed as abandoned. Z1720 (talk) 22:55, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Z1720: there has been no response here, but @Dr vulpes has edited the article in response to my comments. I hope they are well and will return to editing soon. If they are unable to edit, I plan to assess the status of the article next weekend and then close the review. —Kusma (talk) 08:04, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
