Contested deletion

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because. What does it need to not be deleted??. I searched for something in wikipedia, couldn't find it, and decided to make the article. I am still working on it. 336 (talk) 05:10, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

License

I realize this maaay not be the right place to ask, but what kind of license is Death Grips' material released under? I can't seem to find anything anywhere, except on the Freemusic mirror download of Exmilitary, though that seems to be only a site-relevant license? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.114.162.167 (talk) 03:59, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion

Singles probably need to be replaced with Full Moon, Guillotine and a couple of others that were released for only a short while on thirdworlds. Works to simply state the tracks they released to pay and any tracks they initially put to download but then withdrew. Very little reason to put single charts, it just clutters the flow of the page and makes little sense if the tracks weren't released as singles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.185.187.250 (talk) 21:29, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Flatlander No Longer a Member of the Group

In every interview, event, video, and Death Grips-related happening in the last 6 months, Andy Morin has been completely absent. I'd say it's pretty safe to assume he's no longer a member of the group. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.32.99.66 (talk) 04:17, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Morin has been occupied with other projects in iceland, and he's also been handling the legal end of the "No Love Deep Web" fallout, from what I can find on the internet. He also appears briefly in one of the "No Hands" videos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.54.13.0 (talk) 09:16, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Niggas on the Moon

Why isn't this album Niggas on the Moon in the discography?--24.203.108.54 (talk) 00:25, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

It's the first disc of their final studio album The Powers That B, that's why. ShawntheGod (talk) 21:50, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Break Up

Thanks to :2.38.53.152 for correcting my grammatical error in that minor revision, being changing "is" to "were," when the correct word choice should have been "was." I assume this choice is correct unless anyone disagrees? — Haruomi Hosono (talk) 08:20, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

I suggest some minor revisions be made due to the recent news of the bands disbandment. I have changed the "is" from "Death Grips is an experimental hip hop[1][2][3] group from Sacramento, California, formed in 2010.", to "were," i.e: "Death Grips were an experimental hip hop[1][2][3] group from Sacramento, California, formed in 2010." A user has also made a short addition to the 2013-2014 section to include the news of the break up as well as a sentence in the introductory paragraph. Is any more needed? — Haruomi Hosono (talk) 08:02, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

I made a separate section for the disbandment as this is quite big news and shouldn't be grouped in with their music releases for 2013 and 2014, it deserves its own separate section and rightfully so. ShawntheGod (talk) 21:52, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

The name"Flatlander" does *not* refer to Andy Morin

Hardcore Punk

I know they're influenced by it, but could they really be called Hardcore Punk? I certainly wouldn't put them in the same genre as bands like Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, and Bad Brains.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.142.7.229 (talk) 02:36, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

A lot of white /mu/ kids who don't listen to much rap are just really concerned with connecting them to punk music so it's still 'cool'. The biggest fan of them that I know even gets offended when people call them rap and argues that they should solely be placed under the hardcore punk label and shouldn't be referred to in any way as rap because "the punk influence outweighs the rap influence". I don't think hardcore should be a listed genre here either but there are always going to be people ready to pounce on changing it back, unfortunately.158.123.187.100 (talk) 15:35, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Gmail and the Restraining Orders

So Pitchfork (and a few others too) has published a small piece about the new release, but the song doesn't appear to be available anywhere but YouTube. I say it's deserving of a place on the article, if not its own article as well. puggo (talk) 17:25, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Andy Morin

Why doesn’t he have his own page? Ehh447 (talk) 10:01, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Perhaps because in his own right he has yet to earn the same level of notability as the others. If you think you can find enough reliable sources that would establish notability, be my guest! Robvanvee 17:25, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Tyler the creator and Eric Andre being fans

The "in popular culture" section claims that Tyler the creator and Eric Andre are fans of the band, but the only reference is a youtube video starring both of them and featuring a Death Grips song in the background. Nothing in the video seems to imply that they've even heard of Death Grips. Am I missing something?

85.170.249.22 (talk) 18:39, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Quite right! Removed. Thanks. Robvanvee 18:58, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

eric andre posted a picture of him posing with stephan and zach on his instagram and also recorded a video of death grips rehearsing, I think its pretty safe to say he is a big fan.GlowZoe (talk) 04:55, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Tyler the Creator can also be seen moshing at one of their live shows, and has even written an article about The Money Store Wisdom Over Yonder (talk) 19:22, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
cherry bomb by tyler is VERY obviously inspired by death grips however I cant find any sourcing that would make it relevant for there to be a part mentioning tylers fanship Bastubunny (talk) 05:55, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
@Bastubunny
why not? William Shatner is a fan of the group as are a lot of other people, it's not unheard of for a page to highlight various celebrities endorsing or showing support for a band. 184.161.208.163 (talk) 07:02, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
I DONT KNOW MAN IM SORRY OKAY I SAID MY PIECE Bastubunny (talk) 23:35, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
@Bastubunny
hey all good, it's just a discussion 184.161.208.163 (talk) 23:36, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
lmao i was joking, if you think its relevant to add tyler as a fan in the article then go ahead and try to find sources / a source that proves that :p Bastubunny (talk) 23:58, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

Genre cut-down

Per Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre, I propose cutting down infobox genres to a maximum of four general tags. I would propose either:

Or:

Thoughts?--MASHAUNIX 15:01, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

@Mashaunix: I think the first four you listed would be more appropriate. I don't think mainly sources would call them a "punk rock" band. Bowling is life (talk) 16:16, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Agreed, while they do have some punk rock elements in the music, you would still have to remember that the band is mainly a hip hop-style outfit. So if you had to put ANY punk rock tag in the list, electro punk would probably make the most sense. 2600:1010:B1A3:9B21:C534:4681:EB48:2422 (talk) 04:11, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

9/21/22

According to archived screencaps, a hidden message reading "9/21/22" was live on the band's website on September 3-4, only visible when highlighted with ctrl+a, but it was taken down just hours ago. Could be a release date. Might be worth adding to the article. https://web.archive.org/web/20220904035914/https://thirdworlds.net/ 2600:8801:710E:7E00:707B:8923:5215:1C8C (talk) 06:06, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Death Grips Disbanding?

The article has been rewritten to imply that Death Grips is no longer together. Can someone please clarify why the article implies this? I don’t see any source that says Death Grips is no longer together. Homeostasis39 (talk) 01:08, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Might just be vandalism. There's nothing confirmed yet, AFAIK. Superamario64 (talk) 22:46, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hi everyone,

There appears to be vandalism in the past members page - Music critic Anthony Fantano is noted to be a past member, with no evidence to support the claim. Forester56 (talk) 21:51, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

Rumor of Death Grips disbanding

Allegedly there has been a rumored leaked message from member Andy Morin saying the group was disbanded, however no articles have been published yet regarding it's legitimacy. I believe it should be reverted until there's a more public statement about whether the group is still musically active. SpeedrunnerInTraining (talk) 03:23, 9 February 2025 (UTC)

>it's
I agree, but it's only a matter of time. It's already all over the freakin' internet. AlabasterRequiem (talk) 06:21, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
Disagree. We should wait for official confirmation before editing it like this. If Death Grips is really over they will most likely confirm it like they did in 2014. 194.113.66.175 (talk) 06:27, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
That is what I meant, that an official statement should happen before everything is changed to past tense. SpeedrunnerInTraining (talk) 16:06, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
NME and Clash appears to have picked up on it:
Could at least add that it's alleged given we have actual sources. Given Death Grips' very laid-back social media presence, I doubt we're going to get an actual confirmation from the group itself ever. Neo Purgatorio (pester!) 18:25, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
both of those "sources" still only cite Reddit and Twitter, neither of which are a valid source. I think the article should be locked until there is an official statement, not from leaked DMs or reddit Dvdcw (talk) 19:44, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
I do agree but also as she said, there is a very low chance this ever gets officially confirmed in some kind of statement due to the band's presence so the best bet is if another group member gets interviewed properly. SpeedrunnerInTraining (talk) 20:24, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
Death Grips is offline. 99.61.192.75 (talk) 04:23, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
I think it's best to leave "years active" as 2010-2025 with a note saying they are on hiatus, similar to Tally Hall page Radiohead lover 69 (talk) 13:42, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
The situation that Tally Hall is in doesn't really seem comparable to this at all. I'm sure we can find another more analogous example of a group having been rumored to break up. ― Levi_OPTalk 12:38, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

Suggestion

"Death Grips played their last show at the Austin City Limits festival on October 19, 2023 source: https://kvrx.org/app/blog/concert-reviews/death-grips-ravaged-and-caused-chaos-at-acl/

Suggestion to add the line after the Andy Morin tweet. It's good to state either way that the last show they played wasn't the Fayeteville one. Just in case they do or do not return to touring I would do it myself but I am unable to right now. Wisdom Over Yonder (talk) 19:25, 11 February 2025 (UTC)

Picture of latest / potentially final tour?

It would be a good addition if someone could add a photo to the "2019–present: Recent activity and 2023 tour" section to represent the band's latest tour, ideally either of their first (Portland) or last show (Austin City Limits). (Henriquedematos (talk) 09:45, 12 February 2025 (UTC))

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Aston305 (talk) 15:10, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

Nick Reinhart as the third member

He was on the Office Hours podcast and officially stated that he was in the group. I'm not sure how you can source that exactly, but it should be added. 63.224.56.144 (talk) 21:33, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

As soon as we get a source, we will change it if we need to. --Mr Serious Guy (talk) 00:08, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

Death Grips is Online 2026

There is a paragraph near the end of “history” that mentions a deleted Zach Hill post about a new DG album. There is no source provided. 2601:680:CC00:7EF0:205E:AF5F:9B03:1214 (talk) 18:45, 22 October 2025 (UTC)

Andy Morin's status as a member of Death Grips

Death Grips have announced an upcoming album on both Twitter and Instagram (here and here). Both posts once again indicate that Andy's no longer involved in the band. I know we're going off of WP:CRYSTAL, but at what point do we consider him as no longer being a member? DG are pretty known for their extremely cryptic presence and I'm not sure we're ever going to get a (legitimate) statement about his status. Neo Purgatorio (pester!) 08:55, 6 November 2025 (UTC)

We aren't reliant only on statements from the band. As soon as they release new music or start touring, WP:RS will doubtless note the lineup change if there is indeed one. Risedemise (talk) 21:23, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
