On 28 March 2025, Thongbue Wongbandue, a 78-year-old man, died from his injuries after three days on life support. He had sustained injuries to his head and neck after falling down while running to catch a train in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Wongbandue had romantic chats with Meta's chatbot named "Big sis Billie" and was traveling to meet the chatbot, which had repeatedly told him she was real, provided an address and told him to visit her.[1]
It is the cited source that mentions chatbots and makes the connection. I think the text should stay in the article. What do others think? TurboSuperA+[talk] 06:24, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- I'd just added this back with more context (the fact that he had been suffering from bouts of confusion and that his family tried to talk him out of it, and couldn't) before checking the talk page. I think it belongs in the list: he was encouraged to perform an unwise action by an AI, against the best efforts of his family, and this led to a death that wouldn't have otherwise happened. It meets the current lead definition of "cited as a direct or contributory factor in a person's suicide or other fatal outcome". Belbury (talk) 09:12, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
