Benny Hill

The part about the Road name etc needs a date and maybe a reference. Anyone have them? MyNameIsClare talk 15:51, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps a mention that Benny Hill was a Milkman in Eastleigh, working at Hans Dairies. There is a plaque in the Shopping Centre to this effect. In his record 'Earnie' Benny made reference to streets in Eastleigh as well.Bettybutt (talk) 02:39, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Population

Anyone got any idea of the population of the town? The 117,000 figure quoted is for the wider borough. Marky-Son 11:28, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

notable residents

they are spread around the article, perhaps they should be put together and ordered chronologically?

Pluto pipeline

No mention of the Pluto pipeline being made at Pirelli, where the Factory stood is a housing estate, one road called Pluto (Close?)Bettybutt (talk) 02:42, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Pluto Road - any info out there? Pterre (talk) 11:28, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
A Google search for "Pluto pipeline Eastleigh" doesn't bring much up, but I only looked through the first page of (ten) results. waggers (talk) 20:20, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
You may find this link useful. It's a pdf file, published by Visit Southampton, with a line (on page 5) about Pirelli’s factory at Eastleigh and it's involvement in the manufacture of the P.L.U.T.O. pipeline, during WW II. Marek.69 talk 21:55, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Article plagiarised by by-election candidate

Ther Conservative candidate in the 2013 by-election, Maria Hutchings, has been accused of plagiarising this article for her campaign website. How should we deal with this in both of these articles? RolandR (talk) 08:25, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

The web page in question is here (archive copy). There's nothing wrong with copying the text from this page verbatim as long as it is properly credited, which in this case it is not (See WP:REUSE for more info on this). There is a contact email address on the website - I'll send them an email directing them to WP:REUSE and telling them their website as it stands breaks the law. I'll let you know what response I get. WaggersTALK 11:19, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
For the record, here's what I sent to Michael Hantman (from the contacts page ):

Dear Mr Hantman,

As reported recently in the press, the web page at http://www.vote4maria.co.uk/index.php/eastleigh quotes directly from the Wikipedia article on Eastleigh (found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastleigh).

Contrary to popular belief, the text of Wikipedia articles is not a public domain resource but is in fact under copyright, and licensed for reuse under specific licences. These licences require that the quoted text is properly attributed, which has not happened on your Vote4Maria website. As such your site is breaching those licences and infringing copyright laws.

As one of the authors of the text you have copied without providing due credit I am most unhappy to see my rights infringed in this way. Please remedy the situation immediately by removing the quoted text, or properly attributing it in accordance with Wikipedia's terms of use and policy as detailed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reusing_Wikipedia_content

Disclosure: I am not an employee or representative of the Wikimedia Foundation but am writing to you as one of the authors and copyright holders of the text you have copied.

Thank you for your prompt action in this matter.

Regards,

(my real name)

Response, 12.01 today:

Dear (my name)

Thank you for your email. I have passed this to the relevant people who are looking into this today.

I apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you and I want you to know this is an honest mistake from myself rather than an attempt to claim your work as our own.

I appreciate you getting in touch and I will keep you upto date.

Many Thanks

Michael Hantman

Pronunciation

How do you say it? Marnanel (talk) 04:15, 27 June 2025 (UTC)

Marnanel what is needed is a reliable source that gives a pronunciation rather than an editor's opinion.SovalValtos (talk) 07:24, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
Having lived in the area for 40 years, I've always heard it as "Eastlee" if that's any help. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 08:04, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
I've never heard it pronounced any other way. Is this question for improving the article or just out of interest (in which case it doesn't belong here)? WaggersTALK 11:05, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
@Waggers For improving the article. I came to the article to find out, but it wasn't there. So I wanted to ask whether anyone has a reliable source to add the IPA. Marnanel (talk) 18:17, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
