    • ALT1: ... that a mob of hundreds of white demonstrators prevented the court-ordered desegregation of a junior college in Texarkana, Texas? Source: Roused by such rhetoric, an estimated 500 whites mobbed the entrance of TJC on 10 September, the first day of classes. Most of the jeering, placard carrying group were men, the older ones dressed in overalls and working boots, the young ones wearing rolled up denim trousers and penny loafers. They chose to lose a day of work to come and stand guard against Gray and Poston. [...] When the two students tried to walk through the mob, some men threw rocks at them, separating them briefly, and one kicked Poston. At that point, some blacks who were watching at a distance sent in a taxicab to get Gray and Poston out of harm's way. page 183 in Advancing Democracy by Amilcar Shabazz

  • New enough and long enough. ALT0 is sourced to a historical newspaper, which I have seen treated as reliable in GANs and the like. ALT1 is sourced to a book by an established author, so both hooks are reliably sourced. As for interestingness, I prefer ALT1 to ALT0, especially given the picture, which doesn't fit particularly well with ALT0. Also, nitpicking-ish, the article needs at least a mention at the Texarkana College article, and "part of Civil rights movement" needs Civil rights movement linked and "the" added to it. Overall, .
