Honorary doctorates

Could not find a primary source for the honorary doctorates in Sweden in Hungary. No doubt he really has them but if anyone has primary sources, that would be highly appreciated Jaeljojo (talk) 22:10, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Help needed

ThatMontrealIP is constantly (1) putting service tags on this article, (2) changes the text to contain grammar errors (it should be "an important medical..," by the way that is exactly what the wiki article on computerized tomography says; what's the problem?) , (3) does not give specific reasons. Which of the information needs to be verified (needs additional links)? In my point of view everything is supported by independent links. And, all the bibliographic data can be looked up for instance in the books cited on this page, which are published by renowed publishers. What are the problems, and why is ThatMontrealIP threatening me to close my account? Can anyone help, please? Magneto2011 (talk)

  1. Please read WP:BLP about the demands for articles about a living person
  2. Please read WP:RS about the need for reliable, independent sources for articles about a living person
Related sources are just not okay. If you look in the list, there are straight away six (of 16) sources (co-)written by Herman. The maintenance tags, last time placed by me, signify a serious issue. The Banner talk 16:28, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
The COI and autobiography tags are there because the article subject has edited the page heavily. See the edit history. If you read the notices left on your page (since deleted), they do not say I will bock your account, they say your account may be blocked. Blocking is done by administrators, and I am just a regular user. Removing tags and edit warring is something that leads to blocking, so this explains the warnings. The advice given here about reliable sources is good, please follow it. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 11:34, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Please clarify. If books by Herman are cited, how should they not be (co-)written by G.T. Herman? And how should one add reliable sources about the wife, other than their homepage or a bibliography in a book??? Magneto2011 (talk) 16:48, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Books by Herman generally should not be used much as sources at all. If no independent reliable sources have reported on Herman's martal status, then that's probably not all that important a part of his biography. Huon (talk) 19:29, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Requested improvements to article structure, neutrality, and accuracy

I am requesting several changes to improve neutrality, correct factual issues, and update the article to reflect well‑documented contributions. The current version contains autobiographical tone, outdated framing, and minor errors. All proposed edits are based on published sources already cited in the article.

1. Lead section

Replace: "He is known for his work on computerized tomography."

With: "He is known for foundational contributions to the mathematics and algorithms of computed tomography, and for co‑founding the field of discrete tomography."

Add after that sentence: "Herman is also a co‑developer of the superiorization methodology, an approach for improving iterative algorithms while preserving convergence properties."

2. Correct typographical errors

Change: "He is Emiritas Professor..."

To: "He is Emeritus Professor..."

Change: "medical imagine [sic]"

To: "medical imaging"

3. Expand and update the “Scientific Work” section

Add the following subsections and text:

Discrete tomography

"Herman played a central role in establishing discrete tomography as a research area. He co‑edited the first major monograph on the subject and contributed to mathematical frameworks for reconstructing images from a small number of projections, with applications in materials science and electron microscopy."

Superiorization methodology

"In collaboration with Yair Censor and others, Herman co‑developed the superiorization methodology, which modifies feasibility‑seeking iterative algorithms through bounded perturbations to achieve improved objective function values. The approach has been applied in medical imaging, radiation therapy planning, and constrained optimization."

4. Neutrality improvements in “Career” section

Replace: "He formed the Medical Image Processing Group."

With: "He established the Medical Image Processing Group (MIPG), which conducted research in image reconstruction and medical image analysis."

Replace: "He was a professor in the radiology department..."

With: "He served as a professor in the radiology department..."

5. Bibliography introduction

Add at the top of the Bibliography section: "Herman has authored and edited several influential monographs in computed tomography, discrete tomography, and digital geometry."

6. Add “See also” section

Insert before “External links”:

See also

  • Computed tomography
  • Discrete tomography
  • Superiorization
  • Image reconstruction

7. Add missing categories

Please add the following categories at the bottom of the article:

Category:Medical imaging researchers Category:Mathematicians in medical imaging Category:Computer vision researchers

Articles cannot be added to redlinked categories that don't exist to have articles added to them. Bearcat (talk) 14:45, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing this request. These edits improve neutrality, accuracy, and completeness while remaining fully consistent with existing citations. Because of the COI history and the BLP implications, it would be best for uninvolved editors to: · review the proposed edits · assess sourcing · help restructure the article for neutrality and accuracy This will ensure compliance with Wikipedia’s policies and improve the article’s quality for readers.

Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. Fiske (talk) 18:29, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

I am professionally active in this research field and have worked in it for more than 20 years. I have no financial connection to the subject of the article. Because of this professional proximity, I am requesting that uninvolved editors review the following proposed changes.

All suggested edits are intended to improve neutrality, correct typographical errors, and better reflect material already supported by reliable sources cited in the article.

@Tomogr: I appreciate your restraint and wanting to avoid a COI. In fact, based on your descripton, you are a Subject Matter Expert and thereby best placed to make these edits! Looking over the proposed edits I don't see anything inherently controversial, and suggest you WP:BEBOLD and make these changes yourself! Dbsseven (talk) 00:02, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
