Undue weight?
The criticism section is longer than his actual views on medicine; two paragraphs on his philosophy and four critiquing him... Perhaps some of this needs to be reworked (as per WP:CRIT) or removed. Idulatria (talk) 18:43, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- Agree. Criticism needs trimming. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:08, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
'Trauma Cult' leader/prophet?
Criticism: Dr. Gabor Maté blames everything on trauma.

Peacock terms and related issues
Regarding the peacock word template, the career section uses too much vague and promotional language. How many is 'many'? What, exactly, does "pioneer" mean in this context. This are just a couple of examples of the issue here.
Relatedly, the description of his views on addiction in the 'Medicine' section are mostly derived from a couple of primary sources. A treasure box for creating trauma-informed organizations : a ready-to-use resource for trauma, adversity, and culturally informed, infused and responsive systems. Volumes 1 and 2 is also cited as a (potentially) non-primary source for these views, but no page numbers are provided, and Google books doesn't support that Gabor Maté is mentioned in the book at all. If this is solely to support the sentence His ideas are consistent with a trauma-informed care framework.
than this is WP:SYNTH. The use of the AMA definition of substance use disorders is similarly inappropriate.
The paragraph on his purported diagnosis of Prince Harry is far too vague for WP:MEDRS/WP:BLP content. Mentioning the existence of a controversy without providing any context on that controversy introduces multiple issues.
The article should focus on reliable sources, mostly independent sources, almost all of which should directly and unambiguously be about Maté. (They do not have to primarily be about Maté, but they should at least mention Maté directly). Grayfell (talk) 22:20, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
- The article is better now, but some of these issues remain, and there are still other, similar problems. Other examples include "
Maté made national headlines...
", WP:AREYOUBEINGSERVED, and so on. Grayfell (talk) 19:58, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
