GAN push
Hi! I'm working on making up a Good Topic for all of the World Snooker Champions, and also those for whom were World number one. This article to me looks pretty good, just needs a bit of a touch up - anyone have any further suggestions what might need to be required before this is nomninated? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 14:30, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- Rodney Baggins do you fancy doing a nom with me on this article? Any suggestions as to what might be required? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:04, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski: Ooh sorry, I missed this one
however, the brilliant Canary757 has taken up the reins and asked for my view before GAN. I've agreed to co-nom pending a few possible improvements, which I'll list here shortly... Rodney Baggins .talk.

- My feedback/suggestions:
- The subsections are a bit too long in my view! E.g. 2011–2014 and 2018–2022 each have 10 paragraphs, which might not appeal to the casual reader. Maybe change the split so we have shorter subsections, e.g. 2011–2013, 2014–2017, 2017–2020, 2020–2023, 2023–2026, or something like that. I agree that one subsection per season is a bit much for established players.
Done I agree this looks better

- The early life section could do with being completely separate from his professional career. Suggest level 2 heading "Early life and amateur career", ending with "and reached the World Under-21 Championship semi-finals." then another level 2 heading "Professional career", followed immediately by level 3 heading "2005–2011" starting with "Trump turned professional in 2005."

- Ref.161 is Stage One of the 2021 championship league (not 2020), but the 2020 equivalent is a blank page so provides no verification. I was aware, and then forgot all about this so good spot.'
- Eurosport sources have changed to TNT so should be cited as such, with equivalent updated archives if available (probably won't be). I feel like I've been told in the past that the reference details should reflect how they were on the original access-date. At that time these sources had nothing to do with TNT Sports.
- It might be worth adding in a few more archives, e.g. Guardian refs 5, 9, 15, 26, 238. Not essential for GA unless the reviewer picks up on it. I could maybe add a few in passing! Added lots and I see you have too which is great.

Updated above/ thanks. Canary757 (talk) 13:46, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, Canary757. Hope you are doing well. I plan on reading the article and making suggestions if I find anything. However, after a quick scan, I saw that there are too many "then"s (up to 39) in the Life and career section, at some point three in the same paragraph. Some of them can be kept, but most are really not necessary, given that it's obvious that the text follows a chronological order. Thanks for your work on the article. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 14:42, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks @Alavense, I look forward to reading any suggestions you may have. Canary757 (talk) 05:41, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

- Thank you Alavense. I'll take a look. Canary757 (talk) 07:20, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, are we good to go @Rodney Baggins? Thanks for all your help. Do you think the Haircut 100 name is due for inclusion, it's not in the article at the moment? Canary757 (talk) 13:16, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you Alavense. I'll take a look. Canary757 (talk) 07:20, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

- Yes, I think it's worthy of GAN now. I had planned to do more copyediting but haven't had time. I guess it takes several months for the review to happen, so plenty of time for further prose improvements in the meantime. We obviously have to stick with The Ace in the Pack in the infobox – maybe could mention in passing (somewhere in the main body) that he was once labelled Haircut 100 if there are any reliable sources to back that up.
- The Eurosport/TNT sources are a complete PITA IMHO. I'm happy to leave them alone for now, but the reviewer might pick up on it. Personally, I prefer to update to the TNT version (as that's what you get when you click on the link) and keep the Eurosport archive for posterity. The access date can be updated as well, following verification that the new article still supports the claim. But we can leave it alone, as I'm probably just being a bit fussy! Cheerio for now, Rodney Baggins .talk. 10:55, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
Juddernaut is also a nickname for him
That's it really, dunno how to add or what to cite. HelpMeChoose55 (talk) 00:48, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- The nicknames are displayed via a template (Template:Infobox snooker player/nicknames). I just added the Juddernaut nickname with a few references. AmethystZhou (talk) 00:59, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
