Name change, tho no other Kimmage places exist

Why was a disambiguation page created, and without discussion Kimmage the suburb, the logical target under WP: Common Name policy, was fine. No way is the mildly well-known Paul Kimmage - not exactly Stephen Roche or Sean Kelly - to be confused, still less the more obscure cyclist, or two sound but barely notable irganisations. Should this not at least have been subject to a talk page debate? Now the clumsy formation of Kimmage, Dublin must be used, even though there is no other Kimmage place, links will be broken, etc. Can this be reversed? The user who did this has barely 100 edits, so maybe this was just down to inexperience. A Kimmage category could help. Maybe. But let’s get back to plain Kimmage?

There should have been some consultation. The fact that there is no other simple “Kimmage” to distinguish from, and that dozens of articles link to the place called Kimmage, means this move was questionable. Paul Kimmage, the cyclist, is not sufficient basis, as he is not comparable to or confusable with the centuries-old place. Yes, the move can be reversed, but more input would be welcome.SeoR (talk) 12:22, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Absent any comment, I have restored the original position, with simple Kimmage for the place, with its 170+ inward links (far more than any linkage to either of the persons surnamed Kimmage), and brought back the Talk page. Any further changes should be properly raised and discussed here.SeoR (talk) 09:03, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
All valid points, including your suggestion that it might be down to my inexperience. My apologies, and thanks for cleaning this up. Kittens n thugs (talk) 11:41, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi, and thanks for checking back. Don't worry, it was indeed all sorted, and it resulted in some improvement of the article and (when I got back to it, just today) creation of a category. So, while we don't know who wrote the initial comment (an "IP edit"), you and they did us all a favour. And, connected or not, around the same time there was some editing of the rather quiet category of Irish cycling articles, so even better - that reminds me to check back on a few there too. Thanks again, and welcome to the community!SeoR (talk) 13:32, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
@SeoR: I've fixed the resulting cut-and-paste move of the article and the talk page. If you encounter a similar situation again, please either tag the page with {{history merge}} or let me know so I can fix it, rather than making a cut-and-paste move yourself (if there have been others in the past that you know of, I wouldn't mind fixing them too). I only found this situation because User:Brenh/Kimmage, Dublin, some sort of test page claiming that [[Christy Brown lived there, is in Category:Candidates for U6 speedy deletion as of 2026-02-21, which is under Category:Bot-tagged U6 candidates in review. I know you wrote your messages here a long time ago, but I'm not sure what you meant about the initial comment. Graham87 (talk) 09:47, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
I've edited Christy Brown's article accordingly. Graham87 (talk) 11:25, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
