Groups That Debuted from 2023 should be classified as Generation Five
There is a Big Shift that Happened in Late 2022 that covered from Fashion Trends, Music Genres and Social Media Engagements, it doesn't make sense to put Aespa and Hearts2Hearts or IVE and KiiiKiii on the same generation. Keane Verneth Calimlim (talk) 22:55, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

I would say it is in fifth gen, starting with ZEROBASEONE - so find what girl group date that most closely aligns with.
There is also a lack of references for other generations, which should be an issue that is resolved first before adding a fifth generation. Masterofcapacitors (talk) 21:28, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
This won't be easy to resolve because reliable sources do not always agree on the exact year each "generation" began. In 2024, there was also concern that the "fifth generation" was started so companies could use it as a marketing term (e.g. "leaders of the new generation").Random86 (talk) 20:45, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
It might be reasonable to say something like <<it's not widely agreed upon, but the general consensus is that <generation> began in <year> and ended in <year>, however the beginning and end dates are not exact>> and then reference a few different sources based on dates, even if they differ. It's better to at least have something that backs up the claim, even if there's some overlap or disagreement about the exact dates. That could even be mentioned in the texts themselves. I don't know about the exact wording, or the preferred "wikipedia" approach when sources don't agree, but we can at least present something that backs up the claims, even if not perfect
WP:NPOV says "Avoid stating seriously contested assertions as facts. If different reliable sources make conflicting assertions about a matter, treat these assertions as opinions rather than facts, and do not present them as direct statements in wikivoice." then we should follow that the best we can. While those article links above show that some outlets have used the term, they actually highlight why we should remain cautious: "Generation 5" is currently an inconsistent marketing label rather than a settled historical fact. For instance, the 2021 Hankyung source applied this label to Ive and Aespa, groups now universally classified as 4th Generation. Similarly, the SPOTV News and TV Daily pieces frame the Generation 5 primarily as a 2023 "counterattack" by boy groups to reclaim market share from girl groups, which is a narrative-driven industry outlook rather than a structural shift in K-pop.
