Canada (Creation of Nunavut)

Hi,
Why in "Date of territorial modification" for Canada we read the creation of Nunavut (1999)? This was only a matter of internal divisions within Canada and did not affect in any way the borders of Canada. I don't think the column should mention any internal divisions. — Riba (talk) 16:59, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

Algeria

connecting Algeria to the establishment of Numidia in 200 BC is absurd. Furius (talk) 01:24, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

Morocco

Morocco dates back to 5th February 789, when Idriss 1st was enthroned in Volubilis. Why the previous content was deleted and replaced by 7th of april 1956, a date that has no echo nor existence in Moroccan official records.

Morocco was French Spanish & UN protectorate between 1912 and 1955. In November 18th 1955 the independence was proclaimed, and today only this date is celebrated. In case Morocco was found in 1956, who signed the protectorate treay with foreign powers?

The matter with the date 7th april, is that there is no trace of it anywhere in Morocco. Adding to that Moroccan authorities recognize officially Idrissids as founders of Modern Morocco. It is taught in aducational system that Idrissids are first dynastie to unify and found Morocco.

Stating that this country has never existed as political entity called Morocco before 1956 is a lie, a misinformation that is not reflecting the actual reality, and it is not serving the purpose of Wikipedia, a noble cause, to transform this platform into ideological fights.

The official and Historical records say another reality, than this absurd 7th april 1956 that any Moroccan has never heard about

I am now going to change the board, and add actual dates of Morocco's History, one of the oldest nation states in the History. I wish no Ideology is going to interfer and welcome any evidence showing the opposit. If so, please provide 1 source at least, stating that Morocco had no existence as independent entity before 1956. Without source, please do not delete and falsify History — Preceding unsigned comment added by HfedBo (talk • contribs) 15:55, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

The criteria is date of independence or most recent constitution: Below is a list of sovereign states with the dates of their formation (date of their independence) and date of their current form of government (their constitution), this later sorted by continent. So no, we cannot change this to 789. Mellk (talk) 16:58, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
It is important that Wikipedia remains coherent with the reality. There is no source stating that 7th of April is the date of formation of Morocco. This date is totally unknown in Morocco either by Moroccans, the government or its Historians.
In Morocco the official date of independence is 18th November 1955. (https://blog.courrierinternational.com/my-little-maroc/2016/11/20/18-novembre-fete-de-lindependance-du-maroc/)
The official date of its current for of Government, according to Moroccan authorities, is 5 February 789.(https://www.herodote.net/5_fevrier_789-evenement-7890205.php)
Therefor I will edit it so the content of wikipedia remains aligned with the reality and not the fiction. HfedBo (talk) 17:25, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
We have WP:LISTCRITERIA. You would have noticed that none of the other countries have a date this early. Until you get consensus to change the criteria, please do not edit war to restore this change and logging out to restore this still counts as edit warring. Mellk (talk) 11:21, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
No there are countries, like Japan in 6th century, Denmark in 714, France in 814 or Ethiopia in 1137.
I cannot understand @Mellk that you insist to pollute Wikipedia with fictionnal informations. Actual information as mentioned, as agreed in Morocco, are the following: date of aquisition of sovereignty 789 and date of independence 1955. There is not academic works proving the opposite and this is a matter of sovereignty. Those dates are the official ones in Morocco since ever.
It is ridiculous to state that Morocco acquisition of sovereignety is 1956. Morocco was a protectorate, hence, who signed a protectorate in 1912?
Also @Mellk how to get a consensus on that. Actually you would need a consensus as 7th april 1956 is a totally ignored date in Morocco. And Wikipedia is not meant to teach Moroccans about their History. We do have Historians since dawn of times.
However I prefer to respect the Wikipedia rules, for the sake of it, and prevent amators from inventing History to entire nations. So please explain me how to reach consensus? HfedBo (talk) 13:15, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
Strange, when I tried to sort the table it gave me Sweden first (I must have misclicked). My mistake.
I think this list as a whole has issues with original research and while I understand where you are coming in regards to Idris I being considered the 'founding father' of Morocco, the list criteria specifically refers to countries like Morocco gaining independence from Britain and France as the acquisition of full sovereignty. Hence why countries like Iran have later dates like 1501 (and the distinction between sovereign state and nation is made).
That being said, there are clearly some inconsistencies here and much of this is unsourced or not directly supported by the source. I think it is better to correct the other entries first instead of adding to the inconsistencies. If you can suggest a better list criteria, then feel free to do so. Otherwise, please see WP:DR and WP:CON for more information. Mellk (talk) 13:40, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
Hi @mellk
I am fully ready to cooperate with you on this page. It is a page that have been visited 22.000 times in the last 30 days.
What I suggest is to establish a clear criteria. For the date of acquisition of full sovereignty, it is important that state continuity is the only criteria. For example when you edit the board to state that 1956 is the acquisition of full sovereignty for Morocco. No this is untrue, as the country existed before as separate entity since 789 and its foundation by Idriss 1st. Since then a continous centalised power existed around wities of Fez, Marrakesh Rabat and Meknes.
Concerning the date of the last subbordination, this is clearly last time a foreign power was politically and militarily present in the given country.
So basically it is just the date of the acquisition of full sovereignty column that has to be thourghly worked on. It has to reflect the exact moment a centralized power took in charge an entity that still exists. State countinuity is the key criteria HfedBo (talk) 12:56, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
Sure, thanks for taking it one step at a time. Can you find sources that use this as a criteria? Per WP:LISTCRITERIA we should find something supported by reliable sources:
Selection criteria (also known as inclusion criteria or membership criteria) should be unambiguous, objective, and supported by reliable sources. Avoid original or arbitrary criteria that would synthesize a list that is not plainly verifiable in reliable sources. Mellk (talk) 13:04, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
Yes I can. Let me get back to you asap

With THAT criteria, what are you waiting to change Spain and its note to 1978!? The discrepancy between the criteria you hereby defend and what the page then employs, namely for Spain, is beyond absurd, compromising a state of factual accuracy. ~2026-32185-85 (talk) 14:42, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
