So first the nicknames, now the birthplaces?
So the nicknames are exiled from the infobox and the birthplaces are confined to it. Okay, makes enough sense and simplifies things, if you don't count having to go through all the articles to take it out...but where'd the consensus on doing away with birthplaces come from?
And should something be included about MAF's girlfriend, or is she not "official" enough? They've only been together since they were, like, 14...
ConkblockCity (talk) 17:52, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- It's been in the manual of style for a long time. It's just that nobody reads it. Basically, birthplaces really clutter the opening sentence. I'm always wary about listing girlfriends, but if you can find a source saying they've been together since 14, then go ahead and toss it in.-Wafulz (talk) 17:57, 22 August 2008 (UTC
- I think the problem is, people read WP:HOCKEY/PPF instead. I did. ConkblockCity (talk) 18:22, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- re:Véronique, you've already got your source Scroll down... Okay, 16, but "linked much longer". And in the French translation of his CB jersey retirement, she's "sa compagne de vie" which I do believe is a bit more serious than just "his girlfriend". ConkblockCity (talk) 18:32, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Subsections
Does anyone else object to the playing career section being subdivided for every season Fleury has played? It seems very excessive and I was just gonna go ahead and remove them, but I wanted to see if anyone disagreed first. Orlandkurtenbach (talk) 06:08, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Secret Service Save
I corrected the part on the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals where it said Rafalski's shot was saved, even though it was Henrik Zetterberg's from the circle. In doing so, the wonderful people at wiki decided to delete the wonderful bit about how this save is legendary and now referred to as the "Secret Service Save." The tidbit about this save was already saved on the site. I didn't edit that part at all. However, they have now removed it. I petition to have that awesome tidbit, that all NHL readers would find interesting, reinstated immediately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.87.13.9
- (1) Tidbits of information would qualify as trivia. (2) Provide a reference and I will not remove it. Things are supposed to be cited. --Spidey104contribs 21:06, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
So why had that tidbit been on this site for almost one year? It was only removed after I corrected the part preceding it. It makes absolutely no sense, unless someone there didn't originally do their job properly by allowing it to pass through. Do you understand what I am saying? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.87.13.9
- Someone before didn't do their job properly by allowing it to pass through.
- No one has ever said that Wikipedia articles are perfect as is; that's why they are edited every day. Mistakes happen and are corrected when found. I did not remove this to anger you, so I apologize for any undue distress. However, if you can find a legitimate reference for the name then it can be included here and in the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals article. --Spidey104contribs 23:00, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Fleury's nickname on the team is the flower. He is called this because of one of his best saves when he lays down flat on the ice to stop and save the puck. ~LETS~GO~PENS~ (talk) 22:44, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Can you provide any evidence that this is a widespread nickname? Altamel (talk) 04:39, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

All references to Marc-Andre Fleury's current team should be changed from Chicago Blackhawks to Minnesota Wild. CBS sports has confirmed the trade, and the Minnesota Wild's official twitter has announced the trade. 128.62.48.73 (talk) 17:09, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello! I will be reviewing this page later today. I look forward to reading it and discussing the page in depth. Justdoingmybesttoedit (talk) 15:30, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
Thoughts on the Page
This article is very good, but it is in need of a couple of changes to make sure it is of the level necessary for good article status.
1. The lead section is strong, but violates certain elements of the Manual of Style. There are a couple things that should be changed.
a. The pronunciation should become a footnote.
b. Broadly speaking, the lead should not include information that is not found later in the article. Similarly, it should only include major information in an amount that is proportional to just how major said information is. As such, the section about the Telus Cup and the Bossy Trophy should be moved to the playing career section. It could be enough to make junior hockey its own sub header - but considering how much work you have done on the piece, that choice should be yours.
2. Various typos. There are enough that this is worthy of note. I cleared out a decent number and improved various issues of syntax. I'd suggest you take a pass at the whole article. After you make the changes specified in #1, I'll look back at typos. I don't anticipate it being a problem.
3. A couple places in need of expansion.
a. "On January 15, 2024, Fleury became the second-winningest goaltender in NHL history after earning his 552nd win in the Wild's 5–0 victory against the New York Islanders." Who did he pass and who was still in first?
b. "Fleury married his longtime girlfriend Véronique Larosee in 2012, and the couple have two daughters[174] and a son.[175] She is of Abenaki and Mi'kmaq descent.[176] In November 2023, the NHL forbade Fleury from wearing a custom mask he had had made in honor of his wife's Native heritage on the Wild's American Indian Heritage Night.[177] In spite of the threat of fines for himself and the team, he wore the helmet during warm-ups, though he did not start the game.[178]" What happened afterwards?
The article is very good and is nearly worthy of good article status. The changes are quite minor and I don't think it will take very long.
Please let me know if you have any questions. It is impressive that you have done over 10% of the writing of this article; you are far and away the number one contributor.

- Appreciate the feedback on the changes needed to be made on this article. I will address these minor issues as soon as possible, hopefully by tomorrow morning. I'll reach out if I need any clarifications on the changes needed to made. Thank you so much! Shout4Serenity (talk) 02:12, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- Just following up on the progress made to have this ready for GA review, I believe I have cleared up on the expansion you suggested be made to the article but I do have one question about the footnote. How would you suggest that be done? Example, have "French pronunciation: [maʁk ɑ̃dʁe flœʁi]" together on the footnote or just "[maʁk ɑ̃dʁe flœʁi]" itself? Other than that, I will touch up on the typos and I believe this will be ready for review. Once again, thank you very much. Shout4Serenity (talk) 23:21, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- Great question. This is a topic of debate on Wikipedia, but I would defer to WP:NAMES on this.
- Copying from there:
- First sentence examples:
- Cleopatra VII Philopator[a] (69 – August 12, 30 BC) was queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, and its last active ruler.
- Francesco Petrarca[b] (July 20, 1304 – July 19, 1374), commonly anglicized as Petrarch,[c] was a scholar and poet of Renaissance Italy, who was one of the earliest humanists.
- Cesar Estrada Chavez (March 31, 1927 – April 23, 1993) was an American labor leader and civil rights activist.
- François Maurice Adrien Marie Mitterrand (26 October 1916 – 8 January 1996) was President of France from 1981 to 1995, the longest holder of that position in the history of France.
- Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton (born 7 January 1985) is a British racing driver ...
- ==Notes==
- Koine Greek: Κλεοπάτρα Φιλοπάτωρ
- Italian: [franˈtʃesko peˈtrarka]
- More simply put, your first suggestions seems best to me!
- I really like the changes you have made, and the article is soooo close to good article status! Well done.

- Following up again on the progress made to the article. I believe I have cleared out all the concerns you've made to have this ready for GA review now. I would also like to apologize for not getting this done as quickly as possible and keeping you waiting. Unfortunately life gets in the way and I wasn't able to get it done as early as I would've liked to. Anyways, if you believe the article is ready for review, I look forward to contributing and co-operating as best as I can to make this pass for GA. As always, thank you very much! Shout4Serenity (talk) 05:23, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hey there, no worries at all about the delays. Real life comes first - always!
- I think the article is quite close to being ready. I cleaned up some typos, although there weren't a ton after the work you did!
- My one remaining issue is the use of opinion words. I am a huge hockey fan, and I agree with many of the subjective words used in this article, but as they lack citations, they cannot stand. I removed a few, but in the interest of respecting the GA process, I believe you should do the rest.
- Two examples:
- "With Vegas unable to find a stable backup, Fleury was frequently overplayed during the 2019–20 season, posting a 2.77 goals against average and .905 save percentage."
- What does "frequently overplayed" mean?
- "After the team began the season with a historically poor 0–7–2 start that would ultimately lead to the firing of coach Jeremy Colliton, Fleury recorded his first win as a Blackhawk on November 1, 2021, in a 5–1 win against the Ottawa Senators."
- What does "historically poor" mean? What evidence is there that it led to the firing of the Hawks coach?
- As I said, I am a big hockey fan and agree with these takes. Unfortunately, that changes nothing :(. They need to be removed or sourced.
- I think that is the only burden remaining to GA status. The changes you made were lovely and I think this article is soooo close to being ready. Eliminating the above two examples (and other similar occurrences) will push it over the line.
- Once again, well done on this article. Its length and content are impressive and very interesting!Justdoingmybesttoedit (talk) 22:20, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
- Done! Made those changes to article as you suggested. If there is any improvements left to be made in the article, as always, let me know! Appreciate your kind feedback so far on making this article a working process for GA status! You've been a great helping hand and I can't thank you enough for it! - @Shout4Serenity and Justdoingmybesttoedit: It has been a while since someone has edited this page. What is the status of this nomination? Z1720 (talk) 02:04, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- Since I haven't received any new comments or replies for almost 3 weeks now on the status of this page, it appears uncertain unfortunately. Because I am the nominator it's beyond my control on whether or not it is rewarded a GA status. Looking at Justdoingmybesttoedit contributions, they haven't been active since May 27, 2026. As I previously mentioned, without any new updates for me, there's not much I can really do Shout4Serenity (talk) 02:21, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
